Twenty kilometers or so outside Ayacucho are the ruins left by the Wari or Huari civilization, a pre-Inca culture that was dominant in Western Peru around AD 500-900 but went into decline even before the Inca came on the scene.

When the Spanish came to Peru and converted the Inca, they tried to relate Catholic beliefs to native ones. I don't want to paint the places as all grim. It's somewhere between chicken and pork I guess.

Next, organize it in a Trip. A bit of a challenge on a Sunday, as it turns out. Probably not as often as Canadians keep rabbits or eat themjust for comparison.

The manager here is a Belgian but the rest of the staff seem to be Peruvian and they serve Peruvian food that seems more or less authentic to my uneducated palate. I didn't quite get this at first, but apparently it's normal and not insulting. It probably helped that I never had a guinea pig as a pet.
